Gameloft’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 (G.R.A.W. 2)

For some reason, I keep feeling that I’ve already written about this game: Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 (G.R.A.W. 2) from Gameloft. Could it be because of our previous review of Rainbow Six Vegas? Yes, probably: both games abound in urban war, stealth modes, tactics and more. After all, both are Ubisoft franchises turned into mobile by Gameloft. Above this, there’s something quite like a paradox: although Gameloft increased the ingredients I mentioned; only that more urban war, stealth and tactics don’t make it a better game. Yes, take my word - GRAW 2 is not a necessarily a better game than Rainbow Six Vegas..

How is that possible? Let’s see:
Urban war - ok, here is a plus in graphical details, the world has enough of them to look as being “alive”. There are crabs on the beach, chicken in the villages but it’s a desert, so… The desert is boring as landscape by definition. Yeah, maybe I’m subjective and mean today :P.

Tactics: you cannot go blind against the terrorists, shooting left and right. If you like Rambo wait for 4th movie, this is a tactics game :). So you’d better find some cover before engaging in fights if you want to survive. Good thing life increases slowly, you don’t have to look through the whole level for a medipack or something like that ’cause you won’t need any. Still this doesn’t mean you can survive two full clips and a grenade, you must plan your moves. Tactics, remember?. Here a good grade for the A.I. they take cover sometimes and they won’t hesitate to throw a grenade with your name on it when they get the chance, so the adrenaline is here. I must also add a detail that sometimes gets on my nerves: Captain Mithchel (your character, that is) loads a new clip in the worst moments possible, and if you move fast this may cause you to loose life. Let me explain: I don’t mind the implementation of a dead time, it’s a requirement in all good games, but I just don’t find the use of changing a clip after I shot just one bullet. Especially when you have a bullets counter in your clip. A separate loading button might have been too much for a mobile device, but what a waste of ammo :P.

Stealth? Not that important. You can stab your enemies behind your back - oh yeah, I love this but except for a few stages where stealth is a must you can do the same without it.

Even if the review sounds a little critical, this is a good game overall. The difficulty levels and goodies like satellite weapons and walking through minefields using a GPS can’t be ignored. I would give it a 8 - not 7.7. Hear that IGN?
Get the game, you won’t be sorry. Good game overall, I recommend it, especially if you are an arcade fan you don’t have to miss it.

P.S. I still miss the sniper mode from Rainbow Six Vegas [tags]Gameloft, Ghost Recon Advanced Fighter, GRAW[/tags]
